On the second floor, visitors can learn about the history of medal-making in the territory of Slovakia. The oldest Hungarian Renaissance cast and struck medals from the Kremnica mint can be seen here (turn of the 15th and 16th centuries) as well as Baroque and Classicist works, and 20th century works. The Slovak, Austrian, German, Hungarian and Czech medal-making schools are represented here.
Medals created at international symposia regularly organised since 1983 by the museum are also exhibited. What is especially attractive is the presentation of the process of medal casting and striking, as well as the recreated atmosphere of an engraver’s workshop. This part of the exposition presents medals as high-quality artistic artefacts carrying an important historical message.
